More than 600 business groups have signed a letter urging Congress to support President Donald Trump's proposed replacement for the North American Free Trade Agreement.
The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement was negotiated by the Trump administration as a replacement for NAFTA, which Trump has criticized as a raw deal for the U.S. So far lawmakers in Congress have expressed little interest in ratifying the agreement.
A coalition of business groups led by the U.S Chamber of Commerce are urging lawmakers to take up USMCA as quickly as possible. In the letter, they state that 12 million U.S. jobs rely on trade with Canada and Mexico.
"Approval of USMCA will ensure U.S. manufacturers, farmers and service providers can continue to access the Canadian and Mexican markets," the groups wrote. "The new pact guarantees that virtually all U.S. exports will enter these markets tariff-free."
Signatories include the Advanced Medical Technology Association, Aerospace Industries Association, International Dairy Foods Association and International Franchise Association.
